Dr. Yogesh Thakker is a Consultant Psychiatrist and the founder and Medical Director of Manor Clinic in Edmonton, Alberta. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Alberta, and a Consultant Psychiatrist in Developmental Disability at Alberta Hospital Edmonton. He also holds an appointment as Adjunct Professor at Parul University in India.
Qualifications and training
Dr. Thakker completed his MBBS and MD in Psychiatry in India, followed by seven years of specialist psychiatry training in London, United Kingdom. During that time he was awarded Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) and a Certificate of Completion of Training in the Psychiatry of Learning Disability. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) and a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in the United Kingdom (FRCPsych). He completed a visiting fellowship in transcranial magnetic stimulation at Duke University, and holds a certificate in Managing in Health and Social Care from De Montfort University.
Clinical interests
Dr. Thakker’s clinical and academic interests are in the psychiatry of developmental disorders, including autism spectrum disorder, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder and intellectual disability, together with the assessment and management of co-occurring mental health conditions. He has a further interest in interventional and novel treatments in psychiatry, including transcranial magnetic stimulation.
He previously served as lead psychiatrist for the Community Outreach Assessment and Support Team from 2015 to 2020, and as medical lead for the Adult Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Assessment Clinic at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital from 2016 to 2021.
Teaching and education
Dr. Thakker teaches medical students and psychiatry residents at the University of Alberta. He regularly delivers continuing medical education for family physicians in Edmonton, including sessions on transcranial magnetic stimulation, adult ADHD, adult autism spectrum disorder, and mental health in developmental disabilities, for the Edmonton O-day’min and Edmonton North Primary Care Networks. He has also delivered public education sessions for the First Nations Telehealth Network and the Edmonton Space and Science Foundation.

Awards and recognition
Dr. Thakker chaired the Innovations in Practice Conference, a two-day national conference on developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorder. The conference committee received the 2020 Lieutenant Governor’s Circle on Mental Health and Addiction True Imagination Award, presented at Government House in Edmonton.
